CNC Machining Built Around Aerospace Part Requirements
Aerospace components often combine high strength-to-weight requirements, thin walls, complex multi-surface geometry and tightly controlled feature relationships.
Our engineering review focuses on machining access, datum strategy, deformation risk, material condition, inspection methods and documentation before production begins.

Complex Geometry and Datum Control
Multi-face parts often require bores, pockets, mounting surfaces and angled features to maintain accurate positional relationships.
Multi-axis machining and reduced setups help control re-clamping error and improve consistency between critical features.
Thin-Wall Deformation Control
Lightweight structures can distort during roughing, heat generation, clamping and material removal.
Balanced toolpaths, custom fixturing, staged roughing and controlled finishing are used to reduce stress and dimensional movement.
Difficult Aerospace Materials
Titanium, stainless steel and nickel-based alloys require controlled cutting parameters, suitable tooling and careful heat management.
Material selection and machining strategy are reviewed together before quotation.
Traceability and Inspection Planning
Material certificates, critical dimensions, inspection methods, part marking and documentation requirements should be defined before production.
This allows the manufacturing and quality teams to plan the project around the customer’s acceptance criteria.

Inspection and Documentation for Aerospace CNC Parts
Aerospace machining quality begins before material is cut. Drawing requirements, critical dimensions, datum systems, material specifications, inspection methods and documentation are reviewed during quotation and project confirmation.
Critical dimensions, GD&T, datum references, surface requirements, part marking and documentation expectations are reviewed before production.
Material grade, condition and applicable certificates are checked against the approved project requirements.
First Article Inspection can be completed before the remaining batch proceeds, helping verify critical dimensions, feature relationships, threads and assembly interfaces.
Critical features are checked during setup and machining so deviations can be identified before the full order is completed.
Completed parts are inspected against the approved drawing using appropriate gauges, micrometers, height gauges, optical measuring systems and coordinate measuring machines.
Available Quality Documentation
Depending on the agreed project requirements, available documentation may include:
• Material certificates
• First Article Inspection reports
• Dimensional inspection reports
• CMM reports
• Certificates of Conformance
• Surface-treatment certificates
• Batch and part traceability records
• Customer-specific inspection records
Project-specific aerospace certification, approved-supplier and special-process requirements must be provided during RFQ review.
Orders are accepted only after the applicable certification and process scope has been confirmed.

Surface Finishes for Aerospace Machined Parts
Surface treatments can improve corrosion resistance, wear resistance, electrical behavior, cleanliness and appearance.
Finish requirements, protected surfaces and dimensional allowances should be specified before machining begins.

Corrosion-resistant and cosmetic treatment for aluminum components.
Improved wear resistance for selected aluminum parts and contact surfaces.
Conductive corrosion protection for suitable aluminum components.
Improved corrosion resistance for stainless-steel parts.
Wear, corrosion and surface-performance enhancement for selected materials.
Uniform matte surface preparation before or after other finishing processes.
Additional surface refinement for functional, sealing or controlled-contact areas.
Laser marking, serial numbers and project-specific identification can be arranged when defined in the drawing.
Any special-process certification requirement must be identified before quotation and confirmed against the approved supplier and certification scope.

Request an Aerospace CNC Quote5-Axis CNC Machining of a Lightweight UAV Structural Bracket
lightweight structural bracket was required for a UAV assembly where strength, dimensional stability and accurate multi-surface alignment were critical.
The part combined thin-wall sections, deep pockets, angled mounting faces and precision holes within a compact 7075-T6 aluminum structure.
Application: UAV Structural Assembly
Part: Lightweight Load-Bearing Bracket
Material: Aluminum 7075-T6
Process: 5-Axis CNC Milling
Production Type: Prototype and Low-Volume Manufacturing
Surface Finish: As Machined / Anodized
Inspection: In-Process Inspection and CMM Verification
Manufacturing Challenge
The bracket required significant material removal to achieve a lightweight structure while maintaining sufficient strength around the mounting interfaces.
Multiple angled faces, precision bores and mounting holes had to maintain accurate positional relationships. The thin-wall areas also created risks of vibration, clamping deformation and dimensional movement during machining.
5-Axis Machining Approach
The component was machined from a solid 7075-T6 aluminum billet using a 5-axis CNC machining center.
Multi-axis access reduced repeated repositioning and allowed the critical mounting faces, bores and angled features to be machined within a controlled setup.
High-speed roughing removed excess material efficiently, while staged finishing passes and optimized toolpaths helped control heat, vibration and deformation in the lightweight sections.
Critical Feature Control
The machining and inspection plan focused on:
• Positional relationships between mounting holes
• Flatness of assembly interfaces
• Bore diameter and alignment
• Thin-wall dimensional stability
• Thread quality
• Removal of sharp edges and machining burrs
